  • Be 18 years or older
  • You currently have a major depressive episode (a significant period of depression that meets DSM-5 criteria)
  • You have not taken lithium medicines in the past 12 months
  • If you are in the suicide group: you had a suicidal event (thoughts or attempt) in the past 12 months
  • If you are in the comparison group: you have had no suicidal event in the past 12 months
