Who can take part
- You have newly diagnosed rectal cancer confirmed by biopsy (not a recurrence).
- Your tumor is in the rectum close enough to the surgical area (within 18 cm from the margin).
- Your cancer stage on pelvic MRI fits T3N0 or T1–4 with lymph nodes, with node size up to 15 mm.
- You’re age 18 or older, and your general health is good enough for cancer treatment (ECOG 0–2).
- Scans show no spread to distant organs (metastatic disease) and there isn’t another new cancer found.
- You can safely get MRI and the planned treatment (no past pelvic radiation; no serious heart failure issues; infections are controlled).
