Who can take part

  • You are age 18 to 75.
  • You have cardiogenic shock from an acute coronary syndrome (sudden heart artery blockage/heart attack) confirmed during this hospital stay.
  • Your treating team decides you need VA-ECMO (a heart-lung support machine that takes over breathing and circulation) for your current shock.
  • At the time you join, your blood pressure (MAP) is above 65 and you are on fewer than 3 vasopressors/inotropes (blood pressure/heart-strength medicines).
  • You do NOT have cardiogenic shock from sepsis, blood clot in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), COVID-19–related lung/heart failure, or severe right-heart failure from severe lung pressure problems.
