Who can take part

  • Have sickle cell disease type SS or Sß0 (not other sickle cell types).
  • Be age 16 or older, and be able to give/allow consent from a parent or legal guardian (or yourself if applicable).
  • Be able to complete MRI scans without needing sedation (sleeping medicines).
  • Have not had a severe pain crisis in the last 4 weeks that needed an ER visit, hospital stay, or injection pain medicine.
  • Not have had a blood transfusion in the last 4 weeks, and not need ongoing (chronic) transfusions.
  • Not be pregnant, and do not have a seizure disorder; also you must be able to cooperate with MRI exams.
  • Not have a known allergy or other reason you cannot take crizanlizumab (the trial medicine).
