Who can take part
- You are age 18 or older.
- You currently have an implanted heart device (pacemaker/defibrillator/other implanted electrical device).
- Your care team suspects a device infection due to blood test findings and/or symptoms around the device site.
- Blood cultures were positive for infection germs, and other causes for the bloodstream infection were ruled out.
- Or you have signs of an infection at the device pocket (redness, swelling, pain, warmth, drainage), even if antibiotics were started before the blood test.
- You are able and willing to consider device removal (extraction) if your team recommends it; if you are “do not resuscitate” and not pursuing life-prolonging treatment, you usually cannot join.
