Who can take part

  • You have a possible infection in your heart device (pacemaker or defibrillator).
  • You have a bloodstream infection caused by certain bacteria or fungi (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus or Candida).
  • Or you have an infection on a heart valve on the left side of your heart.
  • You are available for follow-up visits and willing to sign a consent form.
  • You are not too frail (score less than 7 on a clinical frailty scale).
  • Your surgical risk is not too high (EUROSCORE II ≤33%) and your lung function is adequate (FEV1 ≥1 liter or ≥30% of expected).
