Who can take part

  • Be age 25 or older
  • Have moderate-to-severe alcohol use disorder based on DSM-5 criteria
  • Plan to stop or significantly decrease alcohol use for the whole study
  • Have had alcohol detox within the last 60 days, or (if detox wasn’t needed) been alcohol-free for at least 14 days
  • Had heavy drinking recently (at least 4 “heavy drinking days” in the last 30 days)
  • Not start formal alcohol-use treatments during the double-blind study period
