  • You have type 1 diabetes and have had it for more than 5 years
  • You are between 18 and 40 years old
  • Your average blood sugar (HbA1c) is less than 8.5%
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 19 and 34.9
  • You use insulin (by injections or pump) as your only diabetes medicine
  • You have not had any diabetes-related complications like kidney, eye, or nerve damage
