Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • Your body weight is high for your height (BMI 30 or higher), or BMI 30–34.9 with type 2 diabetes or age over 55
  • You have a higher-than-average heart risk, such as prior heart attack or stroke, certain heart pump weakness, heart failure, atrial fibrillation with higher stroke risk, or blocked arteries in the legs/neck
  • You have not been hospitalized for heart failure, heart attack, stroke, or heart procedures in the past 30 days
  • You have not had a drug-eluting stent placed in the past 90 days
  • You have no reasons you cannot safely have bariatric surgery, are not pregnant, and you have not had bariatric surgery before (except gastric banding)
