- You are an adult being seen in the emergency department and your care team needs a central line placed using ultrasound.
- Your platelet count is not too low (not under 100,000).
- You have not had a central line placed before at the same exact spot on the body.
- You do not have an existing catheter or wire in place that could get in the way of placing the central line.
- The target vein is shallow enough for the procedure (the front edge is not deeper than 3.5 cm).
