Who can take part

  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
  • Your cancer must not be in the nasopharynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, oral cavity, salivary glands, or thyroid.
  • If your cancer is in the oropharynx or of unknown origin, it must test negative for p16.
  • Your cancer stage must be T0-3, N1-2C, M0 (no distant spread) based on the AJCC 7th edition.
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must not have had prior radiation or chemotherapy for this cancer.
  • You must have adequate blood counts, kidney, and liver function.
  • If you are able to become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test before starting.
