Who can take part
- You’re age 18 or older and admitted to the ICU (MICU).
- You need breathing support (mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, or high-flow nasal oxygen) or medicine to raise blood pressure (vasopressors).
- You’re expected to still be in the ICU at least 48 hours after the study randomization.
- You’re not in hospice and are not expected to die very soon.
- You should not have certain sleep-pattern disruptions before ICU (like recent shift work or known circadian disorder).
- Your ICU admission is not for diabetic ketoacidosis or a hyperosmolar diabetes emergency, and not from a suicide attempt, drug overdose, or alcohol withdrawal.
