Who can take part
- You have major depression (diagnosed by DSM-5 rules) in the current episode, without hallucinations/psychosis
- Your depression score is high: HAMD-24 is 20 or higher
- You are age 18–45 and able to give written consent to participate
- You are right-handed and Han Chinese
- You have no other major mental health conditions like schizophrenia or substance dependence
- You cannot have metal objects in your body or any reason you can’t safely get an MRI scan
