Who can take part

  • Your child needs the EXCOR heart pump because they have severe left or two-sided heart weakness and are candidates for transplant
  • A parent or legal guardian must sign the study consent form
  • Your child must be able to safely take medicines that thin the blood (systemic anticoagulation)
  • After the EXCOR is implanted, MRI scans will not be allowed
  • Certain heart valve problems (more-than-moderate aortic valve leaking) must be treatable/repairable at the time of implantation
  • If your child could become pregnant, they must use birth control (or be surgically unable to have a pregnancy) or be pregnant
