Who can take part

  • Be age 18 or older
  • Have a spinal/nerve injury level around C5 to C8 (your clinician can confirm this)
  • Start the trial able to make some shoulder movement, even if limited
  • Have working hand feeling (sensation) and can sit with enough balance for your arm to be supported and freed for practice
  • Show small but real muscle activity: active finger bending/straightening and elbow bending/straightening (about mild strength) and have spasticity (stiffness) rated MAS 1 to 3 out of 5
  • Use your upper arm/hand very little in daily community life at the start of the study
