Nitric oxide tablets to prevent bowel-related autonomic dysreflexia

This Phase 2 study tests whether nitric oxide “donor” medicine given around bowel care can prevent a dangerous spike in blood pressure called autonomic dysreflexia in people with spinal cord injury. If you have regular bowel care and meet the medication and health requirements, the trial may help determine a safer way to reduce these episodes.

Who can take part

  • You had a traumatic spinal cord injury at least 1 year ago.
  • You have a regular bowel care routine you carry out yourself or with help.
  • You can communicate in English.
  • You do not have a conus medullaris or cauda equina injury.
  • You are not using a ventilator, and you do not have a colostomy or skip regular bowel care.
  • You do not have pressure sores/skin breakdown at the time of screening.
