This study uses extra detailed MRI scans before and/or around planned abdominal surgery to help researchers understand changes in the body. It includes people having surgery for certain cancers and some people having surgery for non-cancer (benign) conditions.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are scheduled for open abdominal surgery for an approved condition (oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, colon, or rectum cancer, or a non-cancer benign condition)
- You can sign a written informed consent form
- You should not have inflammatory conditions (like inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis) or muscle-wasting conditions
- You are able to have an extra multiparametric MRI (not pregnant, not severely claustrophobic, and no implanted devices/metal in the body that prevent MRI)
