Who can take part

  • You are an adult with a new stroke (ischemic or related to a blocked vessel) confirmed by brain scan (MRI or CT/angioscan) when you were admitted
  • Your first stroke symptoms started within the last 24 hours
  • You (or a close family member) can give consent to join the study
  • You have no past history of stroke
  • You do not have known major heart rhythm or heart device problems (like atrial fibrillation/flutter, chronic heart failure, pacemaker/defibrillator)
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you are able to participate under the study’s legal/social eligibility rules
