Decision tool to shorten breathing machine time in children

Who can take part

  • You must be under 12 years old
  • The child must have had heart (cardiac) surgery
  • After surgery, the child must be on a breathing machine for at least 48 hours in the Heart Intensive Care Unit at Boston Children’s Hospital
  • The child must not be a premature baby born before 37 weeks of pregnancy
  • The child must weigh at least 2 kilograms
  • The child should not already rely on a breathing setup through a tracheostomy or need noninvasive positive pressure support as a baseline
