Who can take part

  • You currently have (or doctors suspect) sepsis
  • Your kidney blood test (creatinine) is normal before this illness, or it can be confirmed
  • Your body fluids look normal (your pulse pressure variation is under 12%)
  • If you are not in the sepsis group, you must be previously healthy and scheduled for laparoscopic colon cancer surgery
  • If you are in the non-sepsis group, your creatinine blood test must be normal within the last 3 months
