Orthodontic braces study and how they affect jaw joints

Temporomandibular Joint Disorders

This study looks at whether multi-attachment orthodontic treatment (either on the front or back of teeth) changes the temporomandibular joint, which is the jaw joint. The researchers will assess your jaw joint using a tool called Modjaw.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are having your first orthodontic/dentofacial consultation at the Montpellier dental clinic
  • You need multi-attachment orthodontic treatment for 2 years or less
  • Your planned braces are fixed (on the front or the back of teeth), not clear aligners
  • You can sign informed consent
  • You do not have a syndrome, general bone/joint disease, or other major joint or bone problems
