Who can take part
- You are between 45 and 75 years old
- You are scheduled for a major non-heart surgery (such as chest/abdomen surgery, vascular surgery, brain or spine surgery)
- Your care team expects you to stay in the hospital for at least 2 days after surgery
- You have at least two heart/stroke/vascular risk factors (like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, heart failure, kidney disease, prior stroke, or poor circulation) or one of these additional risks: obesity, current smoking, or low exercise ability
- You are not already in a heart risk reduction program
- You are not having emergency surgery or a transplant surgery, and you have at least a year of expected life
