Cochlear implants for young children with one-sided deafness

Who can take part

  • A parent must sign permission to join the study
  • Your child has very severe one-ear hearing loss that started before age 2
  • The better (other) ear must have near-normal hearing
  • Your child must be between about 7 months and 2 years 11 months when getting the implant
  • A scan must show the hearing nerve looks normal and the inner ear shape is implantable
  • Parents must be ready to attend follow-up visits and encourage wearing the implant when awake
