Who can take part
- You’re age 18 to 70 and can safely swallow liquids.
- Your cancer is proven as squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus, and it cannot be removed with surgery (or you choose not to have surgery).
- Your cancer stage is in a specific early-to-mid range (about T2 with no clear lymph-node or distant spread, based on AJCC 2017 staging).
- You have not had chemo or radiation before joining, and you haven’t had surgery for this cancer.
- You must be well enough to take treatment (ECOG 0–1) with blood counts and organ/liver function within study limits.
- You’re not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you agree to prevent pregnancy if this applies to you; you also can’t have widespread metastases or certain serious health problems.
