Testing whether brain sugar transport improves in type 2 diabetes

Who can take part

  • You can sign a consent form and are able to follow the study for its full duration
  • You are 18 to 60 years old and have a history of type 2 diabetes
  • Your diabetes control is not at goal (HbA1c above 7.5%) and your body size is above the minimum BMI (BMI 18 or higher)
  • You are willing to intensify (step up) your diabetes medicines as the study requires
  • Your recent kidney and liver blood tests are within allowed limits (creatinine and ALT not too high)
  • You can safely do brain MRI/MRS scans (for example, you don’t have metal/claustrophobia issues that make MRI unsafe)
