This trial studies whether methadone can reduce painful nerve damage caused by certain chemotherapy drugs. It is for adults who have ongoing nerve pain for months after chemotherapy ended and may help by lowering neuropathic (nerve) pain.

Who can take part

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Have a cancer diagnosis and a life expectancy of more than 12 weeks
  • Have pain from nerve damage (chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy) lasting at least 3 months after chemo ended, with average pain over 3 out of 10
  • Be using little or no opioid pain medicine now (opioid-naïve or less than 60 mg/day of oral morphine equivalents)
  • Have had specific chemotherapy types linked to nerve damage (like platinum or taxane drugs, vinca alkaloids, bortezomib, or thalidomide)
  • Be able to take pills by mouth and not be pregnant or breastfeeding
