Testing an MRI-PET scan for esophagus cancer planning

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have locally advanced esophageal cancer and are being considered for conventional radiation therapy (RT) for more than 4 weeks.
  • You can read, understand, and sign an informed consent form.
  • You can safely have an MRI scan (no MRI safety issues).
  • You can receive gadolinium contrast if needed, and you can lie flat (on your back) for at least 60 minutes.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator.
  • You can tolerate being in the MRI scanner despite enclosed-space feelings (not severe claustrophobia).
