  • Be in the ICU and started a breathing machine (invasive or non-invasive) within the last 24 hours
  • Your care team expects you to need a breathing machine for more than 48 hours total
  • You were diagnosed with ARDS within 24 hours of ICU admission
  • You are age 16 or older
  • You have not chosen to opt out of using your medical information for research
