Physical therapy clearance before same-day knee or hip surgery
Part of Bones, joints & muscles clinical trials.
This study looks at whether you need to be “cleared” by physical therapy before going home the same day as knee (TKA) or hip (THA) replacement surgery. It may help determine the safest and most efficient discharge plan for patients who can go home with support right after surgery.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.

This trial tests whether a specific pre-surgery oral drinking (hydration) plan can help people feel and recover better after outpatient (same-day) hip or knee replacement surgery. It may help support safe same-day discharge for the right patients.
This trial compares general anesthesia (being fully asleep) with spinal anesthesia (numbing from the waist down) for outpatient knee or hip replacement surgery. The goal is to see which method leads to better recovery and fewer side effects so you can go home the same day.
This study checks whether patients who have hip or knee replacement surgery and go home the same day experience any temporary changes in thinking or memory. Researchers want to understand how anesthesia and surgery affect the brain in the short term.
This study tests a rehabilitation program that starts soon after hip replacement surgery for arthritis or hip developmental issues. The program uses telehealth (video calls) to help you recover strength and mobility at home.
This study tests a faster, more active recovery program for people having their first total knee replacement. It may help you get back to daily activities sooner after surgery.
This study compares recovery after total knee replacement when patients go home the same day versus staying overnight in the hospital. It aims to see if outpatient surgery leads to similar or better recovery.
