Who can take part

  • You have had a stroke on one side (ischemic or bleeding), and it was within the last 3 weeks (not more than 3 weeks ago).
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • Your main problem is arm/hand weakness after stroke, and early testing suggests your recovery is likely incomplete (specific score: Shoulder Abduction Finger Extension below 5 in the first 7 days).
  • You can understand the study information well enough to consent (or a family member can consent if you can understand but cannot sign because of arm/motor issues).
  • You should not have multiple strokes, and the stroke should be at least 1 week old before starting (not less than 1 week).
  • You must be able to have an MRI scan (no pacemaker/defibrillator, certain implants/clips, cochlear implants, recent stents/clips, metal in the eye/brain, or severe claustrophobia).
