Who can take part

  • You must be older than 18 years
  • You must have an elective laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery scheduled
  • You cannot be pregnant at the time of the study
  • You should not be incarcerated (prisoner status excludes participation)
  • You should not have significant lung disease (like asthma or COPD) needing regular medication
  • You should not need supplemental oxygen before surgery to keep oxygen levels up
