Who can take part
- Baby was born at 36 weeks or later, and weighs 1,800 grams or more
- After birth, there was signs of oxygen deprivation or low blood acidity (for example, low Apgar at 10 minutes or still needing breathing help at 10 minutes)
- Baby shows mild brain symptoms on a structured brain exam, but not moderate or severe symptoms
- EEG/brain-wave test within 1 to 6 hours of age looks “normal amplitude” for at least 30 minutes
- Baby has not already received calming medicines, muscle relaxers, or seizure medicines before the brain assessment
- Baby does not have major birth defects or chromosome conditions, and the baby’s exam shows at least two abnormalities
