Who can take part
- Your baby must be born at 35 weeks or later (full term is about 40 weeks).
- Your baby must be less than 6 hours old to join the study.
- Your baby must have had a difficult birth, shown by low blood pH, low Apgar score, or needing help breathing for 10 minutes or more.
- Your baby must have moderate to severe brain injury (called encephalopathy) as determined by a doctor.
- Your baby must not have very serious birth defects, certain genetic disorders, or a very low birth weight (under 4 pounds).
