Etavopivat for preventing stroke risk in sickle cell children

This trial studies etavopivat to see if it can improve blood-flow measurements in the brain that predict future stroke risk in children with sickle cell disease. If you qualify, you would take the study medicine and be monitored with brain blood-flow testing.

Who can take part

  • Your child is 12 to 16 years old at screening
  • Your child has confirmed sickle cell disease (SCD)
  • Brain blood-flow test shows high stroke risk (TAMMV at or above 170 cm/s on screening, confirmed twice) and they have never had a primary stroke or certain severe brain vessel problems
  • Blood counts are high enough: hemoglobin between 6 and 9 g/dL at screening
  • If your child already takes hydroxyurea (HU) for aTCD/cTCD, the dose must be stable for at least 90 days before starting
  • If your child can become pregnant, they must use reliable birth control; if male, they must also agree to contraception rules and not donate sperm/eggs during and briefly after the study
