Auditory stimulation for early schizophrenia brain efficiency

This study tests whether special sound-based stimulation can help improve brain “communication timing” in people with early-course schizophrenia. It compares participants with early-course schizophrenia to healthy volunteers without a psychiatric history to see how brain function changes.

Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 40 years old.
  • If you have the illness: have a schizophrenia-spectrum diagnosis and it started within the last 5 years (no earlier psychotic episodes).
  • If you have the illness: have taken antipsychotic medication for 5 years or less total.
  • If you are in the healthy group: no lifetime psychiatric disorders and no close family (parent/sibling/child) with schizophrenia-spectrum or certain mood disorders with psychosis.
  • You can’t currently have (or recently had) major brain or nervous system problems like significant head injury, seizures, or a condition that affects the brain, and you must be able to consent. (Also no pregnancy/postpartum within 6 weeks.)
