Who can take part
- You have rectal cancer (adenocarcinoma) that is likely stage I to III
- Your tumor is in a low location (below the anorectal sling, about 4 cm or less from the anus)
- You are having planned, curative surgery (not emergency or only to relieve symptoms)
- Your health is generally okay for surgery (ASA 1 to 3)
- You are between 20 and 75 years old
- You cannot have distant spread, very large tumors (8 cm or bigger), or extreme obesity (BMI 40 or higher)
