Who can take part

  • You have Parkinson’s disease that doctors believe is “idiopathic” (not caused by another known condition)
  • You are age 21 or older
  • You have had or will have 7T brain imaging (a specific high-strength MRI)
  • You plan to get DBS surgery at the University of Minnesota, with leads placed in GPi or STN, using directional leads (and the implant must be bilateral)
  • You are not pregnant
  • You don’t have a major other neurologic condition, prior dementia, or serious DBS surgery side effects that could affect safety or the study results
