Who can take part

  • Your baby needs a breathing tube (endotracheal tube) placed through the mouth or nose for a procedure
  • Your baby is a newborn to 52 weeks past when they were conceived
  • A legal guardian can give written consent before the procedure
  • There is no expected difficult tube placement (based on exam or past history) that would require a different technique
  • Your baby does not have a serious heart condition where oxygen needs are already below 1.0
  • Your baby is not in critical collapse needing advanced life support, and the tube is not being placed for an immediate emergency
