Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older
  • You are in the ICU for the first time for this illness
  • Your heart/blood pressure failure from infection has lasted at least 1 hour and needs strong blood-pressure medicine
  • Within about a day, you also have at least one other new serious organ problem (lungs, blood, kidneys, or poor circulation measured by lactate)
  • A clinician believes the shock is caused by infection
