This study tracks how COVID-19 spreads and causes illness in real households in Blantyre, Malawi, and compares groups after infection or vaccination. If you qualify, you’ll do follow-up testing and visits for several months.

Who can take part
- Be age 5–75 (or age 18–75 if you are joining the vaccine group)
- Live in Blantyre and plan to stay near the study health centers for about 6 months
- Have COVID symptoms and a confirmed COVID test (for the “index case” group) OR be a household contact of a confirmed case OR plan to receive the AZ/JJ vaccine (for vaccine group)
- Have not had a COVID-19 vaccine dose in the last 3 months (for index and household groups) or have never had a prior COVID vaccine dose (for vaccine group)
- Be willing to follow the study schedule and attend follow-up visits
- For some groups: not be pregnant at the enrollment visit; and not use cotrimoxazole prophylaxis long-term
