Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You are having an ERCP, a test that puts a thin tube down your throat to reach the bile duct (the tube that carries bile from your liver).
  • It must be your first time having a tube put into your bile duct (your papilla is 'native', meaning untouched).
  • The doctor must have had trouble getting the tube into your bile duct — for example, after 10 tries, 10 minutes of trying, or accidentally going into the pancreas tube twice.
