Who can take part

  • You have had severe pain for more than 1 year that has not responded to medication or surgery.
  • You must be cleared for deep brain stimulation surgery by a medical committee.
  • You must not have significant anxiety or psychological conditions that could be worsened by the study.
  • You must be able to do computer tasks and provide informed consent.
  • You are between 22 and 75 years old.
  • You do not have devices like pacemakers or conditions like dementia that make DBS unsafe.
