Who can take part

  • Age 8 to 22 years old
  • Diagnosed with cerebral palsy from low oxygen at birth, causing muscle tightness or jerky movements
  • Medications for movement problems have not helped enough
  • Your doctor has already decided that either deep brain stimulation or a pallidotomy is a treatment option for you
  • You choose to have a pallidotomy (instead of deep brain stimulation) and agree to join the study
  • No major brain abnormalities or other serious neurological conditions
  • No other implanted devices like pacemakers or cochlear implants
  • No current use of blood thinners that cannot be stopped temporarily
