Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must have liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) caused only by metabolic syndrome.
  • Your liver function must be good (Child-Pugh score A).
  • You must be a candidate for laparoscopic or robotic liver surgery.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) must be 40 or higher, or 35-40 with other health issues, or 30-35 with type 2 diabetes or poorly controlled high blood pressure.
  • You must be willing to have both liver and weight loss surgeries.
