Who can take part

  • You have heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (your heart pumps well but is stiff).
  • You are in New York Heart Association class II or III (mild to moderate symptoms like shortness of breath on activity).
  • Your left ventricular ejection fraction (how much blood your heart pumps out) is 50% or higher.
  • You must have high filling pressure in your heart (shown by your doctor) and be taking a water pill (diuretic).
  • You must not have certain other heart conditions, like atrial fibrillation, blocked arteries, or recent heart failure hospitalization.
  • You must not have active cancer (within 5 years), severe lung disease, or be very overweight (BMI over 50).
