Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 79 years old.
  • You have heart failure caused by a past heart attack (ischemic heart disease).
  • Your symptoms are class II or III (shortness of breath or fatigue with activity).
  • Your heart's pumping ability (ejection fraction) is between 20% and 40%. This is measured by an MRI.
  • You are not a candidate for stents (PCI) or bypass surgery (CABG).
  • You have been on stable heart failure medications for at least 6 weeks.
  • You do not have serious other heart diseases, like valve problems, or other organ issues like liver or kidney failure.
  • You do not have an active infection, uncontrolled diabetes, or a history of recent stroke or heart attack.
  • You agree to use birth control if needed and do not plan to become pregnant.
