Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You had surgery to fix a broken bone (like in your leg, hip, pelvis, or arm) by an orthopedic trauma doctor at the University of Kansas Hospital.
  • You do not have a head injury or confusion from narcotics that prevents you from making decisions.
  • You have not been using opioids (strong painkillers like OxyContin) regularly for a long time.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have serious kidney or liver disease (if you do, you can only be in the standard opioid group).
