Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have fluid buildup in your chest that is not caused by injury or a medical procedure.
  • The fluid is exudative (a type of fluid that often comes from inflammation or infection).
  • The fluid is in pockets (loculated) and still has good blood flow as seen on a special ultrasound.
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder or a very low platelet count.
  • You are able and willing to sign a consent form.
