Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have fluid buildup around your lung that needs to be diagnosed with a tissue sample.
  • The fluid takes up at least one-third of your lung space on a chest X-ray, or is a pocket found on ultrasound.
  • You are willing and able to give written consent to participate.
  • You do not have any bleeding problems, severe breathing trouble, unstable vital signs, scarring in your chest, or other serious heart or lung conditions that would make the procedure unsafe.
