Who can take part
- Your rectal cancer must be a type called pMMR (all four MMR proteins are normal).
- The lower edge of the tumor must be 5 cm or less from the anal opening (this is called low rectal cancer).
- The cancer must be locally advanced (stage cT3-4N0M0 or with positive lymph nodes, but not spread to distant organs).
- You must not have had any previous chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, or surgery for rectal cancer.
- You need to be between 18 and 75 years old, with good overall health (ECOG score 2 or less) and normal organ function.
- You cannot have other serious medical conditions like active infections, autoimmune diseases, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
